4.1.5 Replacing the BJ print head
The printer prints using four BJ print heads. Each print head has three arrays of
integrated nozzles.
a) When to replace the BJ print head
If white stripes become visible in printed graphics, failure in ink ejection due to
clogged nozzles is likely. If this is the case, enter the User mode and execute
"Cleaning" two or three times, and then print the "Check pattern." If the pattern
suggests an ejection failure by any of the nozzles, replace the BJ print head which
contains the failed nozzles.
b) How to replace the BJ print head
1) Enter the User mode ( See page 3-43) .
2) From the "Maintenance" menu, select "Replace head."
The printer uncaps the print heads and unlocks the BJ print head locking cover.
3) Open the upper-right cover and open the BJ print head locking cover.
4) Raise the locking lever of the BJ print head you want to replace, until it comes to
a stop.
5) Open the package containing the BJ print head, and take out the head and the
sponge.
6) Place the sponge over the filter inside the print head before removing the print
head.
The sponge prevents any remaining ink from spilling out of the print head while it
is being removed.
7) Remove the BJ print head from the carriage
