5.4 Ink Drain

There are two types of "ink drain", one is an automatic ink drain and the other is
manual ink drain. The "ink drain" discharges all the ink from inside the ink passages,
about 900ml (about 150ml x 6 colors).

When disassembling or relocating parts of the ink passages, make sure
the ink has been discharged from inside the ink passages in order to
prevent leaking.

5.4.1 Auto Ink Drain

Select "ink drain" in the installation mode from the operation panel, and perform auto
ink drain. The running time for the auto ink drain is about 30 minutes. See

Installation mode (Page 3-51)

for more information.

If a power failure occurs during the "auto ink drain" operation process, the
"auto ink drain" needs to be repeated after the power is turned on.
If the "auto ink drain" is not completed successfully, the printer does not
get ready.

5.4.2 Manual Ink Drain

If the printer's electrical component or the firmware develops trouble, or a power
supply is not available, discharge ink from the ink passage color by color using a
syringe pump etc.

a) Preparation for ink drain

Prepare the following items before servicing

1) Syringe with the tube (QA2-6161-000): about 50ml (CK-0541-000)

Prepare a syringe for each color if possible. If connecting the syringe tube to the ink
drain tube of a different color, clean the joint part of the tube using absorbent
paper etc. to prevent any mixing of colors. Also clean after use, or if the syringe
tube has become dirty, rinse water inside the tube (syringe) to clean, then dry it
thoroughly.

2) Clips for creating ink passage: 3 or more
3) Empty waste ink tank (volume about 2000ml) or plastic container.

Make sure to use an empty waste ink tank or plastic container which is large
enough to hold the waste ink.

4) Slotted screwdriver and fine screwdriver
