c) Paper delivery
If CUTTER ON (Auto cut: Yes ) is selected for roll media, the paper is conveyed up to
the cutting position and cut with the cutter. Then the paper is carried approx.
100mm for its delivery. The discharged sheets are stacked up in the delivery tray
with the printed side facing down.
The paper on the platen is wound back to the set position one cassette A (or B) for
the next printing. In continuous printing with roll media, the paper is not cut and
waits in the pause mode for maintenance operations such as cleaning.
The printed cut sheet is discharged by the eject rollers to be stacked in the delivery
tray face down.
d) Other paper feed actions
i) Roll replacement sequence
This printer interprets that the roll media has been replaced when at least 5 seconds
have elapsed since the cassette is opened.
When the roll media has been replaced, the paper is conveyed to detect and correct a
possible skewing of the new roll media paper and to detect the paper width; And if
no skewing is detected by this process, the cutter truncates the front-end portion of
the paper by about 100mm to trim the end. Then the paper is carried back to the set
position of the cassette.
There are two types of sensors to determine whether paper skewing exists or not;the
skew sensor and the print position sensor. The print position sensor is used to find a
position difference between the locations of the paper's edge near the carriage home
position; when the paper front end resides about 600mm away from the eject sensor,
and after the paper has been carried back about 500mm from that position.
Paper width detection is also carried out during the scanning operation after the
paper is carried back.
ii) Roll media rear end detection sequence
The paper is handled in the following manner according to the paper type and
printing mode:
In the paper pick up mode (recommended roll media):
When both the spindle A (or B) sensor and the cassette A (or B) feed sensor detect
the rear end of the paper during the pick up stage, the entire roll media is delivered.
When the detection results by the spindle A (or B) sensor and the cassette A (or B)
pick up sensor are not identical, the printing will continue with the results reserved.
When the roll paper has been carried forward about 460mm and the rear end is
detected in the paper delivery operation before the paper rewinding process to the
cassette starts, the paper residing inside the printer will be delivered.
In the printing mode (recommended roll media):
When the cassette A (or B) pick up sensor detects the end of the paper during
printing operation, the printer attempts to print as much data as it can if the
subsequent paper length needed for printing is insufficient to complete the current
print job. Then the print job is canceled. If the subsequent paper length needed for
printing is enough to complete the current print job, the printing continues normally
and the rest of the paper followed by the last printed portion will be delivered
without cutting.
