1. OVERVIEW AND FEATURES OF PRODUCT

This product is an optional unit for the exclusive use of the BJ-W9000. The BJ-W9000
is capable of printing on roll paper up to 43 inches wide. The printed paper can be
taken up by this winding device, which is installed on the printer.

This optional unit supports two types of operational modes: AUTO mode that detects
the printed paper automatically and winds the paper, and MANUAL mode that enables
the user to wind up the printed paper manually.

To prevent accidents during paper-winding operations, this product is equipped with a
preventive/safety feature to avoid overloading (the motor automatically stops when an
overload occurs during the winding process).

1.1 External View/Configuration

The figure below illustrates its external appearance and components.

1.2 Operation/Switches

This unit has two switches. One is an AUTO/MANUAL mode select switch which allows
the user to select a paper winding manner/mode. The other is a FEED/FORWARD
switch that enables the user to start the paper winding operation manually regardless
of the current position status of the AUTO/MANUAL mode switch. The features of these
switches are as follows.

1) AUTO/MANUAL mode select switch

AUTO:

Detects the paper printout delivered from the printer with a paper
sensor. When the status of the paper sensor changes to ON, the paper
winding process starts. Conversely once the status of the sensor returns
to OFF, the winding stops.

MANUAL: Does not perform the automatic paper detection and winding with the

sensor. In this mode, the user can start the manual paper winding by
using the FEED/FORWARD switch.

2) FEED/FORWARD switch

The manual printout winding can be started using this switch as required. This
switch is always available, and is independent from, and can be used irrespective of,
the status of the AUTO/MANUAL mode switch.
