3.10 Construction of Paper Path

3.10.1 Construction of Cassette A and B

a) Components associated with roll paper feeding

Each cassette, A (upper) and B (lower) can contain one roll paper media using the
spindle. The installed roll paper is fed by the roll drive unit which is driven by the
feed motor by means of the drive belt.

b) Components associated with the roll paper detection

Each spindle interlocks with the rotary encoder via the gear train. The spindle (A or
B) sensor monitors the rotation of the rotary encoder, by which process the end of
the paper is identified. The remaining is displayed in the roll paper remaining
amount window. The roll paper remaining length detection arm is pressed to the roll
surface of the roll paper media to measure the thickness of the roll. The measured
thick ness is converted to the remaining length of the roll paper.
