Understanding DS0 Group
Terminology necessary to understand DS0 Group are as follows:
Digital trunk: Means T1/E1 trunk working as a physical layer.
Voice Port: doesn’t mean simply PSTN I/F, but means a functional entity
responsible for the function to provide VoIP services at the border area
between PSTN and Packet Network.
Digital voice port: means a digital PSTN interface, as an entity to provide
VoIP service having implications of digital trunk and voice port at the same
time.
DS0 group: is a logical voice port configurable in digital voice port,
consisting of one or more DS0-channels.
Logical voice port: is used with the same meaning of DS0 group. is a
logical unit that can exist in multiple units in digital voice port of E1/T1
unit, each logical voice port is able to work with its own property.
In summary, logical voice port is a multi-phased abstract unit having both
signaling and voice properties in the PSTN at the same time.
Properties that can be set up in the voice port are very variable, and closely
involved with dial peer. Especially for a part of media features, logical voice
port may be set up in dial peer in order to reflect the feature of packet network
in a view of call connection, or reflect the factors determined in the course of
call progress. The following properties may be set up for a media.
Fax setup works in a setup negotiated in the course of call connection with
IP terminal.
packet delay control: controls delay buffer of voice packet by delay control
policy set up in dial peer whose relationship is made by voice port, and dial
peer pair which is determined in a call unit.
