Migrating data to an EVA array configured for iSCSI
The DMS is based upon the ability to assign and present data LUNs to the MPX200 FC ports by
creating an EVA DM Fibre Channel host entity for the MPX200 FC ports. Both the source and destination
arrays used for migration must have a DM Fibre Channel host entry for LUN presentation to the
MPX200.
If an EVA storage array is configured with an MPX200 in iSCSI mode, the MPX200 FC ports are
already assigned to the iSCSI controller host entry. Because the WWPN of the MPX200 FC ports are
assigned to an EVA iSCSI controller host entry, the MPX200 FC port's WWPN cannot be used to
create another EVA Fibre Channel host entry for data migration. This is due to the inherent architecture
of the EVA where a WWPN can be assigned only once to an EVA hot entity.
To set up DMS to concurrently run with iSCSI to the same EVA, the MPX200 firmware includes a new
iSCSI initiator (iqn. 1986–03.com.hp:fcgw.mpx200.dm.initiator) specifically for data migration and
can be used by HP Command View EVA.
In a typical EVA iSCSI configuration, HP Command View allows the user to create an EVA iSCSI host
entry based on the iSCSI unique initiator name (IQN) connected to the MPX200. When presenting
a LUN to be used by an iSCSI server connected to the EVA, HP Command View not only presents the
LUN to the iSCSI controller Fibre Channel host entry on the EVA, but automatically presents the LUN
to the iSCSI server IQN on the MPX200.
By creating a DMS-only iSCSI EVA host entry, LUNs can be assigned to the existing MPX200 FC
ports. Once a LUN is presented to the DM iSCSI host entity on the EVA, it will be available to the
DMS features of the MPX200 and will be used only in an MPX200 DM migration job.
DMS will automatically support multiple paths to the LUN if more than one EVA FC port is zoned with
the blades in the chassis. The miltipath capability is built into the MPX200 firmware, so no additional
setup is required.
Creating a DMS iSCSI host entry with HP Command View EVA
This procedure uses the same steps as for creating an iSCSI host entry for any iSCSI initiator connected
to the EVA through the MPX200.
In HP Command View EVA, set up the DMS iSCSI host:
1.
Click the EVA storage system icon to start the iSCSI storage presentation.
2.
Select the hosts folder.
3.
Click
Add host
to create an iSCSI host.
A dialog box opens.
4.
Enter a name for the initiator host in the Name box.
5.
Select
iSCSI
as the Type.
6.
Select the DMS initiator iSCSI qualified name (IQN) from the iSCSI node name list
(iqn.1986–03.com.hp.fcgw.mpx200.dm.initiator)
7.
Select
Windows
as the operating system from the Operating System list.
Figure 97
is an example of assigning the DMS IQN to the DMS host entry.
