Performing basic configuration tasks
Customizing a switch name
Switches can be identified by IP address, Domain ID, World Wide Name (WWN), or by customized
switch names that are unique and meaningful.
For Fabric OS 4.x (and later) switch names can be from 1 to 15 characters long, must begin with a letter,
and can contain letters, numbers, or the underscore character. It is not necessary to use quotation marks.
The default names are:

NOTE:
Changing the switch name causes a domain address format Registered State Change Notification
(RSCN) to be issued, and in older versions of the Fabric OS may be disruptive to the fabric.
How to customize the switch name
1.
HP StorageWorks 4/16 SAN Switch and 4/8 SAN Switch, SAN Switch 2/8V, SAN
Switch 2/16V, SAN Switch 2/32, SAN Switch 4/32, 4/64 SAN Switch, 400 MP
Router, and 4/256 SAN Director
: Proceed to the next step.
HP StorageWorks SAN Director 2/128
: Open a telnet window for each logical switch and enter
the
switchName
command.

Connect to the switch and log in as
admin

HP StorageWorks SAN Director 2/128:
If configured for one domain (the default) proceed to
the next step. If configured with two domains, proceed to
step 6
.
4.
Enter the
switchName
command at the command line, using the following syntax:

newname
is the new name for the switch.

Record the new switch name for future reference.

SAN Director 2/128 configured with two domains
: Disconnect from the session and repeat
the procedure for the second logical switch.
