Setting FirstPass
User certificates prove that the user is a bona-fide
FOMA service subscriber. Downloaded user cer-
tificates are saved on your FOMA card (UIM) and
enable you to access FirstPass compliant sites.
Connecting to the FirstPass Center
Use this procedure to request and download the
user certificate.
c You can request a user certificate or download it
from the FirstPass Center.
c
User certificates cannot be used with a FOMA
card (blue).
c Date and time must be set before connecting to
the FirstPass Center.

Before using the FirstPass Center, select “The usage
regulation (in Japanese only)” and read the informa-
tion.
e
You cannot use the following functions while you are
connected to the FirstPass Center.
a Push-to-Talk calls

Sending or receiving i-mode mails (sending or receiv-
ing SMS is available)

Check new messages (Check new SMS is avail-
able)

Sending or receiving speed photo mails

Receiving MessageR/MessageF

Downloading i-motion

Always send a certificate request before downloading
a new or updated user certificate. You cannot down-
load a certificate without first requesting the certifi-
cate.
e
Once an application for user certificate invalidation
has been completed, you can no longer access First-
Pass-compliant sites that require that user certificate.
e To use FirstPass after completion of invalidation,
apply issue for the user certificate again and down-
load it.
e
To check a downloaded user certificate, see “Using
SSL Certificate” (p.235).
NOTE
e
Packet communication charge for connection to First-
Pass-compliant sites is covered by “Pake-Houdai”
deal.
e
FirstPass is also available in full browser. However,
the packet communication charge for connecting to
FirstPass-compliant sites is not covered by the “Pake-
Houdai” deal.
e
If you connect to a FirstPass-compliant site without a
user certificate, or if your user certificate has expired, a
message informing you of that fact is displayed. You
may still connect to the site and view subsequent
pages by selecting “YES”, but note that it may not be
safe to send your personal information (credit card
number, contact details, etc.) on the site. To discon-
nect, select “NO”. When the “SSL session was termi-
nated” message appears, press
d
to return to the
original screen. Reconnect the site after downloading
the user certificate from the FirstPass Center.
