for m axim um axle-to -k n u ck le clearan ce.

9. When ste e r in g difficulty or abnorm al tir e
w ear is indicated, check front end alignm ent as
p rev io u sly in stru cted under ''FRONT END ALIGN
MENT" (SEC. 3A).
STOP SCREWS
Adjustable stop sc r e w s a re located betw een
each ste e r in g knuckle and axle center to prevent
w h eels from contacting c h a ssis on extrem e right
and le ft turns. The stop sc r e w s a re in sta lled in the
ste e r in g knuckles and stop against the axle center
a s shown in figu re 5 on F -0 7 0 , F -0 9 0 , F -1 2 0 and
F E -9 7 0 a x le s. On F -1 6 0 a x le s, stop sc r e w s a r e in
sta lle d on axle cen ter and stop pads a re on s t e e r
ing knuckle.
Steering g e a r s a re equipped w ith b u ilt-in stop s
to p revent ste erin g m echanism from bottom ing at
extrem e turns. S crew s a re s e t to obtain the m ax
im um turning an gles provided in th ese m o d els. R e
f e r to "Specifications" in S ec. 3A fo r turn a n g les.
1. Pitm an arm m ust be in sta lled co rrectly on
steerin g gea r. R efer to STEERING SYSTEM (SEC.
9) of th is manual for in stallation in stru ction s.
2. Tutn in the right stop sc r e w so that sc r e w
w ill not contact its stop when w h eels a r e turned
to extrem e right.
3. With w h eels turned to extrem e right, hold
right w heel tightly against right turn p osition , then
turn out stop sc r e w until it contacts firm ly against
it s stop. Turn sc r e w about 1 turn m ore against its
stop , and tighten lock nut. Check p osition of tir e . If
tir e has le s s than 5/8" clearan ce from any ch a ssis
obstruction, adjust sc r e w to obtain clea ra n ce.
4. Repeat step s on left sid e .
IMPORTANT: When in sta llin g o v e r s iz e tir e s ,
rech eck turning clearan ce and stop sc r e w settin g .
