ON-VEHICLE ENGINE BRAKE
COMPONENT REPLACEMENT
GENERAL
The engine brake sy ste m functions the sam e
on In -lin e engines as on V -type engines; how ever,
on In -lin e engines two supply housings a r e used
and each one is connected to a pair of drone hous­
ings (fig. 31). Two supply housings and two drone
housings a r e u sed at each bank of c y lin d ers on
8V -71 engines (fig. 32). The sam e arrangem ent of
housings is u sed at both cylinder banks. R efer to
figure 33 for sch em atic arrangem ent of units and
hydraulic c ir c u its.
The sam e arrangem ent of e le c tr ic a l w iring,
sw itch es, and solen oid valves is u sed on

-cy lin d er engines; i.e ., the sw itch es are con­
nected in s e r ie s and the solen oid v alves a re w ired
in p a ra llel (fig. 34).
The follow ing in stru ction s cover p roced u res
in lo g ica l sequence fo r rem oving and installing the
engine brake sy ste m com ponents from an In -lin e

-cy lin d e r engine or one bank of an 8V-71 engine.
