NOTE: Key num bers in text refer to figu re 12.
1. R em ove lock w ire and s e ts c r e w from end
yoke (7). R em ove u n iv er sa l joint a ssem b ly from
sh ift control rod (9).
2. R em ove two snap rin gs (37); then tap one
sid e of end yoke (2) to fo r c e bearing (3) and w asher
(4) out end yoke. Strike opposite sid e of yoke to
fo r c e out opposite bearing (39) and w ash er (38).
3. R em ove the other two b earings (5 and 33)
and w a sh ers

and 34) in the sam e m anner.
4. Separate end yokes (2 and 7) from journal
c r o s s (36).
5. R em ove boots

and 17).

. R em ove p a rts retaining end cover (30) and
gask et (29) to the housing (15). D isca rd gask et.
7. Rem ove lo ck w ire and se tsc r e w (28) from
outer sh ift finger (27); then rem ove sh ift control
rod (9) and outer sh ift fin g er.
NOTE: On v e h ic le s equipped with Spicer 6000
S e r ie s tr a n sm issio n s, hold shift fin ger stud (12)
and rem ove nut (17) and w asher (16). R em ove 1st
and r e v e r s e sh ift fin ger (

) from housing.

. R em ove lock w ire and se tsc r e w (24) from
inner sh ift fin ger (14). R em ove shift fin g er shaft
(26) and inner sh ift fin ger from housing. R em ove
Woodruff key (32) from sh ift fin ger shaft.
9. R em ove and d isca rd o il s e a ls (21 and 23).
Cleaning and Inspection (F ig. 12)
1. Clean a ll p a rts thoroughly with cleaning
so lv en t. Wipe or blow parts dry.
NOTE: The housing (15) on som e m o d els, is
equipped with a b reath er. B e su re it is clean.
2. Exam ine a ll p arts fo r sco rin g , cra ck s, or
other dam age. D isc a r d a ll p arts that a r e not in
good condition.
3. C arefully in sp ect bushings (13, 18, 20, and
25) fo r pitting, sco r in g or other dam age. R eplace
a s n e c e ssa r y .
A ssem b ly
NOTE: Key num bers in text r e fe r to figu re 12.
1. In sta ll new o il s e a ls (21 and 23) in housing
(15).
2. In stall Woodruff key (32) on sh ift fin ger
shaft (26).
3. While holding inner shift fin ger (14) in
p la ce in housing, in se r t sh ift fin ger shaft (26) into
housing and through inner shift fin g er. In sta ll s e t ­
s c r e w (24) in inner sh ift fin ger.
IMPORTANT: B e su r e s e ts c r e w is sea ted in
the sh ift fin ger shaft. Tighten s e ts c r e w firm ly and
se c u r e with new lock w ire.
NOTE: On v e h ic le s equipped w ith Spicer 6000
S e r ie s tr a n sm issio n s, in se r t sh ift fin ger stud (12)
in 1st and r e v e r s e sh ift fin g er (11). P o sitio n in
housing and in sta ll w asher (16) and nut (17).
4. P o sitio n the outer sh ift fin g er (27) in the
housing. In sert the sh ift control rod (9) into hous­
ing and through outer shift fin g er. In stall s e t ­
sc r e w (28) in outer sh ift fin ger.
IMPORTANT: B e su re s e ts c r e w is se a ted in
the locatin g hole of the sh ift control rod. Tighten
s e ts c r e w firm ly and se c u r e with new lock w ire.
5. F ill that portion of the housing, which con­
ta in s the outer sh ift fin ger % fu ll w ith c h a s s is lub­
rican t. Install new gask et (29) and end cover (30).
Tighten cap sc r e w s se c u r e ly .

and 22) on each end of the
sh ift control rod (9).
7. P o sitio n journal c r o s s (36) in end yoke (2).
In stall w a sh ers (4 and 38) and b earin gs (3 and 39)
on journal c r o s s and se c u r e with snap rin gs (37).

. In stall the rem aining end yoke (7), w a sh ers
( 6
and 34), b earings (5 and 33), and snap rin gs (35)
in the sa m e manner.
9. Install u n iv ersa l joint a sse m b ly on shift
control rod (9) and se c u r e with s e ts c r e w on end
yoke. Tighten s e ts c r e w firm ly and se c u r e with
new lo ck w ire.
Installation
NOTE: On v e h ic le s equipped with C la rk tra n s-
m is s io n s , p o sitio n sp a cer and two ga sk ets on the
opening. On rem aining tr a n sm issio n m odels p o s i­
tion gask et ov er tra n sm issio n opening.
IMPORTANT: On v e h ic le s equipped with Spicer
6000 S e r ie s tr a n sm issio n s, keep the assem b ly
slig h tly tilte d to the left during in sta lla tio n as
shown in figu re 9 to p revent the plunger from f a ll­
ing into the tr a n sm issio n . A fter the rem ote control
a sse m b ly is sea ted on the tr a n sm issio n sh ifter
housing in sta ll the plunger pin, plunger pin spring
and reta in er.

In sta ll the rem o te control a s s e m b ly -to -tr a n s m is -
sio n attaching p a r ts. Tighten b o lts fir m ly .
2. With the prop shaft type shift rod in serted
in the u n iv ersa l joint a sse m b ly , tighten the s e t ­
sc r e w firm ly .
3. Adjust tr a n sm issio n control linkage a s d e s­
crib ed p reviou sly under "Linkage Adjustm ent."
