DOOR VENT WINDOW TENSION
ADJUSTMENT
Vent windows a re of fric tio n type having a
th e ft-r e s is ta n t latch . F ric tio n m echanism c o n sists
p rim a rily of a coil sp rin g mounted on vent window
low er pivot, which e x e rts fric tio n a l force ag ain st
mounting low er support.
If fric tio n m echanism is adjusted too tight, it
will be difficult to open o r close vent. Too loose
an adjustm ent w ill r e s u lt in a fluttering vent o r
one having a tendency to close with wind p r e s s u r e .
If n e c e ssa ry to change vent frictio n , p e rfo rm
p ro c e d u re s a s follows:
1. Remove eight sc re w s which attach v en ti
la to r trim panel to low er q u a rte r of door.
2. Reaching up through opening in door, tu rn
adju stm en t nut on vent window pivot with a speed
w ren ch to obtain 3 1/2 to 7 pounds force when
applied p e rp en d icu lar to g la ss at locking handle
(R efer to figure 24). Use e ith e r a push o r pull
type sp rin g sc a le positioned p e rp en d icu lar to
r e a r edge of vent g la ss.
3. Install trim panel to low er q u a rte r of door.
DOOR VENT WINDOW ASSEMBLY
REPLACEMENT
REMOVAL (F igs. 22 and 24)
The division channel betw een the door window
g la s s and the door vent is p a r t of, and is rem oved
with, the vent window assem b ly .
1. Low er window to full-down position.
2. Remove the f r e s h a ir v e n tila to r/s a fe ty
g la s s and trim panel from low er q u a rte r of door.
3. Remove two division channel retain in g
s c re w s fro m bottom of door. (R efer to figu re 22).
4. Remove th re e sc re w s which re ta in vent
window to upper front edge of door.
5. U nlatch vent window and swing out. J u s t
below vent window, rem ove plug from door inn er
panel. Through hole, rem ove vent window fram e
attaching screw . (R efer to figure 22).
6. At end of run channel, next to upper end
of division channel (vent window fram e), p ry end
of ru b b e r ru n channel from door fra m e and pull
downward from top of door.
