2. Rem ove d rain plug (9) fro m low er side of
filte r.
3. Rem ove two bolts (1) which attac h cover
(2) to filte r . Rem ove cover and gasket (3). D isc a rd
gasket.
4. Remove up per p late (4), elem ent (5), low er
p late (6), and sp rin g (7), fro m filte r body (8). F lush
out filte r body.
5. D isca rd f ilte r elem ent, then clean a ll p a r ts .
Exam ine elem ent low er p late fo r excessive c o r­
ro sion . Deep p its in th e p late do not w a rra n t r e ­
placem en t. Clean p late by w ire b rushing. This
p late g en erates c u rre n t fo r the electro ch em ical
action of filte r elem ent. If ex cessiv ely co rro ded ,
re p la ce.
6. R eferrin g to fig u re 15, position sp rin g (7),
low er p late (6), new elem ent (5), and upper p la te (4)
in filg e r body (8). In sta ll cover (2) using new gasket
(3). Tighten cover attaching bo lts evenly and firm ly .
In sta ll d rain plug (9) in bottom of filte r body.
7. Open gate valves at top and bottom of filte r
o r re le a s e hose clam p s. S ta rt and o p erate engine
until w ater in cooling sy ste m is w arm . Check fo r
a i r lock in filte r . If cover of filte r becom es w arm
no a ir-lo c k condition e x ists in system . If cover
re m a in s cool, vent sy ste m sam e as fo r a hot w ater
h e a te r sy stem .
8. R efill sy stem to p ro p e r level.
