TION (SEC. 0) of th is manual.
5. Adjust to e -in d escrib ed in "FRONT END
ALIGNMENT” (SEC. 3A) of this manual.

. Check to be su re tie rod ends a re in proper
alignm ent with b all studs, then tighten tie rod end
clam p b olts to torque lis te d in "Specifications."
IMPORTANT: If tie rod is not properly aligned
with the stud, binding w ill resu lt.
TOE-IN ADJUSTMENT
1. L oosen clam p b olts at each tie rod end.
2. U sing a pipe w rench, turn tie rod center
tube a s required to se t to e -in to dim ension given
in "FRONT END ALIGNMENT” (SEC. 3A) of this
manual.
TIE ROD REMOVAL AND DISASSEMBLY
NOTE: Key num bers in text r efer to figu re 9.
1. R em ove cotter p in s and nuts (5) from tie
rod end studs, support steer in g arm to prevent
bending; then drive tie rod end tapered stud (

) out
of ste erin g a rm s. R em ove dust cork spring (3) dust
cork sh ield (

), dust cork (7), and dust cork w asher
(

).
2. L oosen clam p b o lts, then rem ove each tie
rod sock et end a ssem b ly from tie rod tube (

3. Pry out retaining lock ring (15), then r e
m ove retaining w asher (16), sea t spring (17), spring
se a t (18), g r e a se s e a l (14), stud (

), andstud b ear
ing (9).
INSPECTION
Clean a ll tie rod p a r ts, then inspect fo r wear
and other dam age. D isc a r d worn parts and rep lace
sp rin g s if found to be w eak.
ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLATION
(R efer to Figure 9)
1. Lubricate tie rod end parts with lubricant
sp e c ifie d in LUBRICATION (SEC. 0) of th is manual
b efore assem b lin g.
2. P osition stud bearing (9) in end sock et.
3. Install stud (

), p la ce g re a se s e a l (14) on
sp rin g se a t (18), then in sta ll spring se a t.
4. P osition sea t spring (17) and retaining
w ash er (16), then in sta ll lock ring (15).
5. In stall tie rod sock et ends on tube, thread
ing each end the sa m e number of turns on tube,
then in sta ll clamp b o lts but do not tighten clamp
bolt nuts at this tim e.

. In stall dust cork w asher (2), dust cork (7),
dust cork sh ield (

), and dust cork spring (3) on
tapered stud in order liste d .

7. Make certain the stud h oles in steerin g
a r m s, and stud nuts a re clean and dry, then p o s i
tion tie rod a ssem b ly on steerin g a rm s. In stall tie
rod stud nuts (5). Tighten stud nuts to torque given
in "Specifications," then in sta ll cotter pin.

IDLER LINK
(TM 80 TILT CA B MODELS)
An id le r link i s used to connect the Pitm an
arm to the id ler le v e r on S e r ie s TM80 tilt cab
m odels.
REMOVAL (F ig. 10)
1. R em ove cotter pin and nut attaching the
id ler link to Pitm an arm .
2. R em ove cotter pin and nut attaching id ler
lin k to id ler le v e r .
3. U sing a ham m er, tap id ler link lo o se from
Pitm an arm and id ler le v e r .
NOTE: The id ler link, if worn or damaged,
m ust be replaced a s a com plete a ssem b ly . P a r ts
a r e not furnished sep arately.
INSTALLATION (Fig. 10)
1. P o sitio n id ler link studs in h oles in Pitm an
arm and id ler le v e r .
2. In stall stud nuts and tighten to torque liste d
in "Specifications" at end of th is sectio n , then ad
vance to next hole and in sta ll new cotter p in s.
