BRUSH REPLACEMENT
1. L oosen two attaching b o lts, then rem ove
s lip ring end r e c tifie r c o v er (fig.
1 1
).
2. R em ove w ir e s from (F+) an d (F -) term in a ls
on brush holder studs (fig.
1 1
).
3. R em ove brush holders with b ru sh es and
sp r in g s. R ep lace b ru sh es if sh orter than 3 /1 6 -in c h .
4. Connect w ir e s to (F+) and (F -) term in a ls
(fig.
1 1
), then in sta ll slip ring end r e c tifie r cover
and attach with two b olts.
REGULATOR REPLACEMENT
1. D isconnect negative term inal at battery,
o r b a tte r ie s.
2. L oosen two b olts and rem ove slip ring end
r e c tifie r cover (fig.
1 1
).
3. Rem ove th ree AC lead s from regulator at
heat sink (larger white w ires) (fig.
1 1
).
4. R em ove internal (G+) and (F -) nuts (fig. 10)
at regulator term inal p late. Lift off th ree diode
lea d s from each cap scre w .
NOTE: The location of lead s to a ssu r e the
sa m e positioning la ter.
5. R em ove four round-head sc r e w s which r e ­
tain regulator to housing. (Two a re adjacent to
pow er tr a n sisto r w h ile two additional ones a re
d ire ctly above and in lin e with p reviou s two r e ­
m oved.) (R efer to fig . 10.)

ord er o f d isa ssem b ly being carefu l that a ll in su l­
ating s le e v e s and w a sh ers a r e p rop erly in sta lled .
7. Check regulator voltage settin g , then p e r ­
form output te s t a s d irected p rev io u sly
ADJUSTING VOLTAGE
REGULATOR SETTING
1. Install v oltm eter at battery.
2. The voltage adjustm ent sc r e w i s a c c e s s ib le
through a h ole in r e c tifie r cover.
3. Run engine fo r approxim ately 15 m inutes
at 800 engine rpm to n o rm a lize e le c tr ic a l sy ste m .
4. V oltm eter should read 13.5 to 13.9. If n ec­
e s s a r y to adjust, turn voltage regulator adjusting
sc r e w (fig. 10) to s e t voltage within range. (Clock­
w is e to in c r e a se , or cou n terclock w ise to d ec rea se.)
NOTE: P ro p er settin g is obtained when battery
rem a in s fully charged with a m inim um u se of w ater.
If any c ir c u it d efects a r e found, y e t the battery
rem a in s undercharged, r a is e the settin g by 0.3
volt, then check the battery o v er a p erio d of tim e
to s e e if im provem ents w ere achieved; r e s e t re g ­
ulator if n e c e ssa r y . If the sy ste m is overcharging,
lo w er the settin g by 0.3 volt, then check battery
o v er a period of tim e.
