R em ove clutch p ilot bearing a ssem b ly from
engine, u sin g p ilo t bearing rem over (J-5901-2)
w ith slid e ham m er (J-2619). With fin g e rs on p u ller
c lo se d , in se r t fin g e r s through bearing inner r a ce
a s fa r a s they w ill go, then tighten thumb sc r e w
to sp read fin g e r s. Slide weight sharply against stop
on p u ller shaft to rem ove bearing.
Installation
1. P ack clutch p ilot bearing with s m a ll quan­
tity of high tem perature lubricant sp ec ified in
LUBRICATION (SEC. 0) of th is manual.
2. With sh ield ed sid e of bearing toward the
r e a r , d rive p ilot bearing into p osition u sin g a su it­
able d riv er. B earing should be sea ted firm ly .
FLYWHEEL, INTERMEDIATE DRIVE
PL A T E , AND PRESSURE PLATE
Inspect su rface w hich is contacted by the
clutch facin g. T his su rface m ust be sm ooth and
should not be grooved o r show deep heat checks.
R ep lace if the above conditions a r e evident.
DRIVEN DISCS
Inspect driven d isc assem b ly fo r worn, lo o se ,
and g r e a se o r o il-so a k e d fa cin g s. Check fo r broken
sp r in g s, lo o s e r iv e ts, or cra ck s in the driven d isc
hub. Exam ine sp lin es in hub fo r w ear and make
su re they slid e fr e e ly on sp lin es of the m ain drive
g ea r. If any w ear or damage is evident, rep lace
with a new driven d isc a ssem b ly .
PRESSURE PLATE AND COVER ASSEMBLY
D etailed in sp ection and repair p ro ced u res for
the p r e s s u r e plate and co v er a ssem b ly a r e not
covered in th is manual.
CLUTCH INSTALLATION
(R efer to F igu res 1 and 2)
1. B e su r e the wood block s (fig. 3) or hold-
down b o lts and w a sh ers (fig. 4) a re in sta lled in the
clutch cover a ssem b ly .
2. P la c e front driven d isc a g a in st flyw h eel.
P la c e in term ed iate drive p late again st the front
driven d isc . Then p la c e r ea r driven d isc against
interm ediate drive p la te.
NOTE: B e su re the la r g er exposed portion of
d isc dam per sp rin g s face the p r e s s u r e p late.
3. Move clutch cover a ssem b ly into p osition
against dual d isc a ssem b ly . In sert alignm ent tool
or old tr a n sm issio n main d rive gea r into pilot
bearing.
4 . If alignm ent m arks w ere made on clutch
cover and engine flyw heel p rio r to rem oval, align
th e se m arks.
