The w ire m esh pad (elem ent) in the breather
a ssem b ly should be cleaned if e x c e s s iv e crankcase
p r e ssu r e is ob served . If it is n e c e ssa r y to clean
the elem en t, rem ove the upper front co v er .
Wash the elem en t in fuel o il and dry it with
c o m p ressed air.
R ein stall the elem ent and upper front cover
in sam e m anner a s rem oved.
SERIES 71 ENGINES
C rankcase ventilation is accom p lish ed through
a b reath er pipe which exp els vapors from within
the cran k case. B reath er tube on 6-71 engines is
attached to governor and req u ires no p eriod ic
m aintenance.
C rankcase ventilation on V 8-71 engines (fig.
14) is accom p lish ed by a breather, sep arator and
tube a ssem b ly which is attached to opening in fly ­
w heel housing. E very 30,000 m ile s the a ssem b ly
should be rem oved and d isa ssem b led and ste e l m esh
rem oved fo r cleaning. Im m erse a ll p a rts in fu el o il
or cleaning solvent to rem ove a ll accum ulations of
o il and foreign m atter.
