If the wheel is installed incorrectly, deflate the tire, correct rings position and repeat infla-
tion up to 50 kPa (0.5 kgf/cm
2
). When deflating the tire, disconnect air inlet hose from the com-
pressed air source and not from the wheel. The hose can be disconnected from the wheel only when
the tire is completely deflated.
If the rings are repeatedly mounted incorrectly, replace the defective parts and checking the
correctness of lock and bead rings inflate the tire at 50 kPa (0.5 kgf/cm
2
) ensuring tire beads seating
on the rim seats, then set nominal pressure of the tire.
Unlike popular conical rim seats fitting tire beads on toroidal rim seats under growing inter-
nal pressure is not gradual but quick, usually at 450-500 kPa (4.5-5.0 kgf/cm
2
).
8. Mount the wheel on the hub and fix it, wheel retaining nuts tightening torque should be
400-500 Nm (40-50 kgfm).
To provide tire inflation hose connection to the wheel valve, put the wheel relative to the
hub cover so that it is symmetrically positioned between the wheel pins from wheel valve side.
When fitting the wheels tighten disc retaining nuts to the hub as described below:
- manually thread all nuts on the studs;
- tighten the nuts preliminary when the wheel is elevated. Herein, tighten the nuts next but
one or in a criss-cross manner. When tightening first five nuts, check that the nuts align their spheri-
cal chamfers with spherical chamfers of wheel disc mount holes. Nuts should be completely tight-
ened, because insufficient and uneven fastening can lead to side wheel wobble.
4.3.3.7 Wheel Assembly Balancing.
Allowable out-of-balance is 5.2 kgm. During opera-
tion when the tires become worn and due to other reasons (tire refitting) initial balancing is disturbed,
that is why during truck driving one can feel oscillation and vibration, front wheels especially.
Out-of-balance can lead to quick thread wear, to steering wheel parts and suspension parts
wear, as well as it complicates truck steering. Static wheel balancing should be done when the wheel
is with tire. Out-of-balance is eliminated by putting balance weights retained on the bead ring with
leaf spring. One balance weight with the spring weighs 0.38 kg. To eliminate out-of-balance from 5.2
to 15.2 kg*cm one balance weight should be mounted, from 15.2 to 25.2 kg*cm - two balance
weights should be applied, from 25.2 to 35.2 kg*cm - three balance weights should be used.
Allowa-
ble out-of-balance
is 5.2 kg*cm.
