4.8.2 Fifth-Wheel Coupling Maintenance 

 
 

Before each trip: 
1. Check if the safety lever is closed. 
2. Make general visual inspection of the fifth-wheel coupling and mountain frame to check 

if they are well coupled, have no wear, corrosion or damage. 

3. Check if fixation is full and reliable according to figure 142. 
4. Test of move the truck from a standstill: move the tractor from a standstill slowly - the 

semi-trailer should not uncouple. 

 

 

 

 

 

1-Central trunnion; 2,3- locking element; A - unlocking handle is fixed in the device plate and lip 
of the safety lever is  completely before the unlocking handle.  B - there is no clearance between 
the  trailer  and  the  fifth-wheel  coupling.  C  -locking  element  3  is  securely  closed  on  the  central 
trunnion 1.

4.8.3 Coupling and Uncoupling of the Tractor and the Semi-Trailer 
 
 

Before coupling make sure that the fifth-wheel coupling and its fasteners are properly func-

tioning, the fifth-wheel is not dirty and it has no foreign objects, if necessary, clean the top surface 
of the fifth-wheel and oil it. Put the semi-trailer in a way that its base was on the same level with 
the tractor fifth-wheel or a little bit lower it, but no more than 50 mm.
