4. Install the differential and adjust the differential bearings. Tighten differential bearing

cover bolts with 250-320 Nm (25-32 kgfm) torque. Adjust the differential bearings with nuts 36
(see figure 59). After nut tightening distance between differential bearing covers must increase for
0.04-0.14 mm. During the adjustment rotate the differential to install rollers inside the bearings.
Idler gear crown must be symmetrical to the pinion crown.

Due to technological improvement of differential gears manufacturing, tooth profile of

the satellite axle shaft gear has changed. The new gears cannot replace the old ones, and must be
replaced as an assembly. To distinguish between them, marks on the small module are made: axle
shaft gear has 90 mm grooves and the satellite has graded butt end.

Adjust swivel member king pin bearings during sixth maintenance-15 000 as follows:
- remove the wheels and put supports under the swivel member lower covers.
- remove left swivel member lever and right swivel member upper cover;
- remove two seals from the seals package: one seal 0.05 mm thick and one seal 0.1 mm

thick; lubricate lever cavities with 50 g of Litol-24 according to GOST 21150-87 and mantle the
lever and the cover; tighten the nut with 160-200 Nm (16-20 kgfm) torque.

- take away supports and remove lower covers;
- remove from each cover seal package 0.15 mm thick [(0.05+0.1) mm];
- mantle the covers Tighten the nut with 160-500 Nm (16-20 kgfm) torque;
- mantle the wheels.

4.2.6.6 Wheel Boss Bearing Adjustment

- jack the axle from the dirigible wheel;
- remove the cover;
- disengage the axle shaft splines and the boss and remove the axle shaft;
- unscrew the outer nut and remove lock and keyhole washers;
- rotating the wheel manually, make sure that the brake drum does not rub the pads;
- tighten the nut with 300-350 Nm (30-35 kgfm) torque, when tightening the nut, turn the

boss so that rollers mounted the bearing, after that loosen the nut for about 1/5-1/6 torque. Install
the keyhole washer.

If the nut pin does not coincide with the keyhole, the nut can be loosened for the value

not exceeding the distance between two adjacent holes. Mantle the lock washer, tighten the lock
nut with 400-500 Nm (40-50 kgfm) torque
nut and lock it.

To provide tire inflation hose connection to the wheel valve, install the axle shaft with

boss cover in a way that the tire inflation hose is in the wheel valve direction symmetrically be-
tween the wheel pins.

Having finished the assembly, check wheel bearings adjustment during 10-20 km driv-

ing. if the adjustment is correct, the boss should be cold or a little bit warm. If the boss is hot,
check bearing adjustment.
