All  universal  joints  are  similar  in  their  construction  and  unified  with  GAZ-53A  truck 

joints. 

Coupling shaft is installed on two supports. To compensate installation inaccuracy slide 

yokes 7 of front and rear shafts are installed on splint ends of the coupling shaft. Lubricant in the 
spline joint is retained by O-rings 8.  

5.9.3.2  Rope  Guideplate.

 The winch has a rope guideplate (see Figure 150) which en-

sures correct rope laying on the drum, when is inclines from the truck axis for 15°.maximum. The 
rope  is  fixed  to  the  drum  by  a  bracket,  it  is  released  only  backwards.  The  holder  housing  22  of 
guiding rollers lays the rope by back-and-forth motion along the actuating screw 6 and along two 
guiding rollers 7. Left-hand and right-hand screw installed on two bearings is rotated by the chain 
transfer from the drum shaft through the drive sprocket 16 and idler sprocket 10. Chain tension is 
adjusted by gaskets 2 and 14; chain slack can be 3-10 mm. 

Axial force from the actuating screw 6 is transferred to the holder housing of the guiding 

rollers through the slide block 20 of the actuating screw. The slide block is installed in the holder 
housing of the guiding rollers and fixed by the cover 21. The guiding rollers 19 are installed on 
nylon bushings 18 and rotate on the studs 17 fixed with locking plate 5. 

5.9.3.3  Rules  of  Using  the  Winch. 

Before winch operation check that the winch drum 

drive switch is properly functioning and that the rope is correctly reeled and fixed. When the drive 
is properly adjusted, pull rod 10 length (see Figure 148) in hole axles of the adjusting for should 
be 228-232 mm.
