4.2.6 Driving Axles 
 

Truck driving axles are throughfeed-type with upper main gear location. 
4.2.6.1  Intermediate  axle 

main  gear

  is  double-type,  consisting  of  a  couple  of  conical 

gears  1  and  14  (see  figure  59)  with  spiral  teeth  and  a  couple  of  cylindrical  gears  4  and  31  with 
oblique  teeth.  Symmetrical  conical  differential  with  four  satellites  is  bolted  to  the  conical  idler 
gear. 

Main gears are marked by a plate identifying the axle ratio, which is installed under the 

main cylindrical gear bushing sleeve cover bolt. Main gear pinions have marks on the pinion and 
idler gear shown in Table 11. 

The main gear is installed in the axle case 10 (see figure 60) through the paronite gasket 

9 0.8 mm thick, and is fastened with thirteen bolts and two pins.
