13-6 FUEL SYSTEM AND THROTTLE BODY
FUEL DISCHARGE AMOUNT INSPECTION
• Remove the seat and radiator covers. (

• Remove the fuel tank bolt and rubber band. (
13-2)
• Lift and hold the fuel tank.
• Disconnect the fuel pump coupler

• Place a rag under the fuel hose and disconnect the fuel hose

from the fuel pump.
• Connect a proper fuel hose

to the fuel pump.
• Place the measuring cylinder and insert the fuel hose end into
the measuring cylinder.
• Connect a proper lead wire into the fuel pump coupler (fuel
pump side) and apply 12 volts to the fuel pump (between ter-
minal

and terminal
B
) for 10 seconds and measure the
amount of fuel discharged.

If the pump does not discharge the amount specified, it means
that the fuel pump is defective or that the fuel filter is clogged.
Replace the fuel pump assembly.
Fuel discharge amount:
89 ml (3.0/3.1 US/Imp oz) and more/10 sec.
NOTE:
The battery must be in fully charged condition.
Gasoline is highly flammable and explosive.
Keep heat, spark and flame away.
Be sure to disconnect the fuel hose

by your hand.
You may not disconnect the fuel hose

with any tool.
