Logging AxoTrace Software Messages to .txt Files
The AxoTrace Software tracks the hardware status of the ImageXpress Confocal HT.ai system
and logs the hardware activities of the system. If an error occurs downstream of the initial
cause, the AxoTrace Software provides a log that Molecular Devices Technical Support can
use to trace the error back to the original cause and pinpoint the problem. Do the following if a
reproducible hardware error occurs. Follow the AxoTrace Software setup procedure and
record the steps that lead to the error. If the error results in the instrument not starting up, not
responding, or the error cannot be reproduced, contact Molecular Devices Technical Support.
To log AxoTrace messages to a .txt file:
1. Open the MetaXpress software, and the AxoTrace Software starts automatically.
The AxoTrace Software icon appears in the Windows taskbar.

2. Exit the MetaXpress software.
3. Double-click the AxoTrace Software icon in the Windows taskbar to display the AxoTrace
dialog.
4. Click Options and make sure that the Time Prefix option displays a check mark.

5. Click File > Exit to close the AxoTrace window.
6. Start the MetaXpress software.
7. Turn off the ImageXpress Confocal HT.ai system and then turn it back on.
The light source can remain on during this step.
8. Reproduce the error.
9. After you reproduce the error, exit the MetaXpress software.
10. Double-click the AxoTrace Software icon in the taskbar to display the AxoTrace dialog.
11. Click File > Save As to display the Save As dialog.
12. In the Name field, enter the file name.
13. Navigate to where you want to save the log file.
14. Click Save to display the AxoTrace dialog.
15. Click File > Exit.
16. Send the AxoTrace Software log as an email attachment to Molecular Devices Technical
