Configuration Parameters
returning to local mode. When defining this value, use a unique, unused character (such as Control
B) or a string of characters. To clear an existing setting, enter a null string (""). The default is no
control character sequence.
On virtual (telnet) ports, the backward_key value is limited to one printable or Control character.
If the user tries to set this value to more than one character, that is, a string, the setting is ignored
and the previous value is restored.
On non-virtual ports, a backward_key string can range from 1 to 16 characters.
banner
This asynchronous port parameter controls whether or not the Model 5390 banner and
message-of-the-day display on CLI ports.
A Y enables this parameter, an N disables it. The default is Y.
broadcast_addr
This Model 5390 parameter defines the IP address for Model 5390 broadcasts. It is recommended
that you set a subnet broadcast address, if possible. In this case, you set the subnet portion of the
broadcast address to match the Model 5390 subnet address, as determined by the Model 5390 subnet
mask, and you set the host portion of the broadcast address to all one-bits. For example, if the Model
5390 subnet address is 132.254.9.0, and the Model 5390 subnet mask is 255.255.255.252, you
should set the broadcast address to 132.254.9.3. To calculate this, subtract the subnet mask from
255.255.255.255. Thus, in the previous example, you subtract 255.255.255.252 from
255.255.255.255 to arrive at 0.0.0.3.
If your network is not subnetted, you can specify a network broadcast address. In this case, you set
the network portion of the broadcast address to match the Model 5390 network address, as
determined by the intrinsic mask for the network class. And you set the host portion of the broadcast
address to all 1-bits.
Finally, you can set a limited broadcast address of 255.255.255.255 that reaches all nodes on the
subnet. However, if you have more than one subnet on the same physical cable, the Model 5390
