Configuring Hosts and Servers
want to capture in the file. Regardless of the priority level you define, the Model 5390 sends events
to the host according to the priority defined in syslog_mask.
Following is an example of an entry in /etc/syslog.conf for logging Model 5390 events:
# Annex logging
local7.debug /var/spool/log/annex
After creating an entry for Model 5390 event logging, create the log file. Next, reinitialize the syslog
daemon (see Creating User Password Files on page A15-11 for more details).
Configuring LAT Services
The Model 5390 server can display, and connect to, currently available LAT services. Initially, all
LAT functions in the Model 5390 server are disabled: the user does not have access to the connect
and services CLI commands, and the administrator does not have access to the LAT-specific Model
5390 parameters.
To enable the LAT functions:
1
Enter the correct lat_key parameter value.
2
Configure the disabled_modules parameter not to include the lat option.
3
Reboot the Model 5390 server.
The lat_key value is unique for each Model 5390 server. Because this value varies by port count,
if the administrator changes the number of ports on the Model 5390 server, the lat_key must change
and the Model 5390 server must be rebooted (contact your supplier to obtain a lat_key value).
When the administrator selects the Model 5390 server via na or admin that has LAT enabled, the
Model 5390 server returns the normal configuration line with the string W/LAT included:
command: annex zippy
zippy: Remote Annex R10.1 w/LAT, 24 ports
Advertised Services
Advertised services are the announcements of resources (modems, printers, etc.) that LAT machines
have available for use by the network clients. A service announcement carries the name and Ethernet
address of the server offering the service, along with a current service rating. Every host that accepts
