3. Remove the front and top covers, as described in "
Removing the Front and Top Covers"

4. Remove the vacuum manifold cover.

5. Check the vacuum manifold cover for dust.
a.
Verify the O-ring, which is the thin, black strip around the top of the vacuum
manifold, for signs of wear and tear. Replace it if needed.
b. Verify that there are no particles on the O-ring. Wipe it off with a lint-free cloth if
necessary.
6. Perform maintenance on the components of the vacuum manifold:
• "
Cleaning the Ion Volume with an Inlet Valve" on page 38
Volume Without an Inlet Valve" on page 43
• "
Cleaning the Ion Source, Lenses and Prefilter" on page 45
• "
Replacing the Ion Source Filament" on page 53
7. Reattach the vacuum manifold cover.
8. Reattach the front and top covers of the DSQ II.
9. Restart the DSQ II.
Tip
The cover will be easier to remove if you start by completely venting the
instrument to atmospheric pressure for approximately four minutes.
Vacuum Manifold Cover
CAUTION - INSTRUMENT DAMAGE.
Do not allow dust or lint to get on the electron
multiplier or ion trap. It can cause spectral noise or instrument damage.
