High Vacuum Symptoms

DSQ II Hardware Manual

Thermo Scientific

Rotary-vane pump will not turn on.

Possible Solutions

• The rotary-vane pump is off. Check the rotary-vane pump switch.

• The rotary-vane pump power cable from the DSQ II is not connected. Connect the

power cable.

• The rotary-vane pump is configured for incorrect line voltage. Configure the rotary-vane

pump for proper line voltage.

• The rotary-vane pump is faulty. Replace it.

Rotary-vane pump powers on, but will not pump down.

Possible Solutions

• The cable from the fore pressure gauge to the vacuum control board is faulty. Check the

cable.

• The foreline is leaking. Check the clamps and connectors. Replace the foreline hose if a

hole is found.

• A large leak is present. Check for leaks and correct.

• The oil level in the rotary-vane pump is insufficient. Check oil level; add more oil, as

described in

“Adding Oil to a Rotary Vane Pump”

page 64

• The rotary-vane pump is faulty. Replace the rotary-vane pump.

• The vacuum manifold top cover is leaking. Press down on the top cover to make sure it is

seated properly.

Turbomolecular pump will not turn on.

Possible Solutions

• The fore pressure is not low enough. Check the rotary-vane pump and foreline plumbing

for leaks and proper operation.

• Ready is not transmitted by the vacuum control board. Check cable connections between

vacuum control board and turbomolecular pump controller; replace if necessary.

• The laboratory environment is too hot. Bring laboratory environment to within DSQ II

specifications.

• Line voltage is out of tolerance. Check line voltage; correct as necessary.
