DSQ II Hardware Manual

Thermo Scientific

I/R Tool and Guide Bar

The I/R (ion volume/removal) tool is used to insert and remove the ion volume and consists 
of a shaft, handle, and guide ball. The I/R tool is designed to be used with the guide bar. The 
guide ball located on the I/R tool fits inside a hole located on the guide bar, then slides 
forward along the guide ball track. The guide bar is designed to accurately stop the I/R tool 
the correct distance within the inlet valve in order to evacuate atmospheric pressure before 
opening the ball valve. Once the ball valve is opened, the I/R tool is slid along the guide bar 
track all the way into the vacuum manifold.
