DSQ II Hardware Manual

Thermo Scientific

Magnets and Magnet Yoke

Two magnets focus emitted electrons into a beam that spirals through the ion volume. The 
spiraling of the beam ensure optimum ionization of the sample. The magnet yoke holds the 
two magnets in the proper position above and below the ion source. 

Position both magnets so the south pole is on top otherwise sensitivity will be poor. Electrons 
are not focused into the ion volume if one magnet is upside down.
