7. Add 200 μL of calibration compound. See " Refilling the Calibration Gas Flow Module"
on page 77 for more information.
8. Test the gas fittings for leaks.
a. Use the DSQ II to check each fitting for leaks, as described in " High Vacuum
Symptoms" on page 135 .
b. Correct leaks by tightening or replacing the connections. Continue to check and
correct leaks until all connections are leak-free.
9. Turn on the CI reagent gas supply (if present).
10. Reattach the right, left, top, and front covers of the DSQ II.
11. Restart the DSQ II.
12. Once the DSQ II has pumped down and is operational, check for vacuum leaks by
reading the convectron gauge and ion gauge and running an automatic tune.
Refilling the Calibration Gas Flow Module
Calibration compound is a liquid whose mass spectrum is used to tune and calibrate the
DSQ II. The DSQ II uses FC-43 as its calibration compound. You cannot tell by sight
whether calibration compound needs to be added. However, during an
Xcalibur automatic
tune, an error message displays “the intensity of calibration gas ions is too low.”
There are many factors that can cause a shortage of calibration gas ions besides a decrease in
calibration compound. As a rule, the DSQ II should never require adding calibration
compound more than once a year.
To refill the calibration gas flow module, you will need:
• FC-43 calibration compound (PN 50010-30059)
• Screwdriver, Phillips #2
• Syringe
• Wrench, open-ended, 9/16-in.
1. Cover the work area with a lint-free cloth.
2. Shut down and vent the DSQ II, as described in "Shutting Down the GC/MS System"
on page 18 .
CAUTION - INSTRUMENT DAMAGE. Do not use liquid soap leak detectors (such as
Snoop) to check for leaks. They will contaminate your system.
WARNING - ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD. Before proceeding. unplug the DSQ II to
avoid an electrical shock.
