Filament and Lens Control Symptoms

Emission current is unstable.

Possible Solutions

• The filament is near the end of its life span. Replace the filament, as described in

“Replacing the Ion Source Filament”

page 53

• There is a fault in the ion source board. Replace the ion source board, as described in

“Cleaning the Ion Source, Lenses and Prefilter”

page 45

• There is a problem with the analog board. If necessary, replace the analog board, as

described in

“Replacing the Analog Board”

page 71

Short filament lifetime.

Possible Solutions

• Change the emission current setting to:

−

CEI – 25 μA.

−

PCI – 50 μA.

−

NCI – 50 μA.

• There is an air leak contributing to short filament lifetime. Check for leaks; repair if any

are found. See

“High Vacuum Symptoms”

page 135

• The filament is on during solvent peak. Increase filament/multiplier delay time until

solvent peak has passed.

• High emission current is being used. Use lower emission current to extend lifetime.

Diagnostics indicate flat lens response.

Possible Solutions

• The power supply to the lens has a fault. Check regulator board in the power module;

replace if necessary, see

“Replacing the Power Module”

page 101

• There is a fault with the lens drivers. Replace the analog board, as described in

“Replacing
