Maintaining the DSQ II

Preparing the DSQ II for Maintenance

Thermo Scientific

DSQ II Hardware Manual

2. Rinse the components with clean water. Use a clean applicator or toothbrush to remove

the aluminum oxide slurry. Do not let the slurry dry on the stainless steel because it is
difficult to remove.

3. Sonicate the components in warm detergent.

a.

Use forceps to place the components in a beaker of warm detergent.

b. Place the beaker and its contents in an ultrasonic bath for five minutes.

c.

Rinse the components with tap water to remove the detergent.

4. Sonicate the components in deionized water.

a.

Use forceps to place the components in a beaker of deionized water.

b. Place the beaker and its contents in an ultrasonic bath for five minutes.

c.

If the water is cloudy after sonicating, pour out the water, add fresh water, and place
the beaker and its contents in a ultrasonic bath again for five minutes. Repeat until
the water is clear.

5. Sonicate the components in acetone.

a.

Use forceps to place the components in a beaker of acetone.

b. Place the beaker and its contents in an ultrasonic bath for five minutes.

c.

Use forceps to transfer the components to a beaker of fresh acetone.

d. Place the beaker and its contents in an ultrasonic bath for five minutes.

6. Blow clean, dry gas on the components to remove the acetone.

7. Use forceps to place the components in a beaker covered with aluminum foil. Dry the

components in a 100

o

C oven for 30 minutes. Allow the components to cool before

reassembling them.
