Firmware Upgrade Instructions document, part number, provides information on updating IP phone 

firmware for the following models: 

Firmware Management

You must do a software downgrade to revert back to an older firmware version for Mitel phones. 

Multiple firmware versions are not currently supported; only the latest versions are available for 

downloading.

Software Packaging

Phone firmware images are maintained on the MiVoice Office 250 server for each of the supported 

Mitel IP phones. The phone firmware is maintained in packages to be upgraded as part of the MiVoice 

Office 250 upgrade. The images must be explicitly installed.

Only one release of each firmware is maintained on the MiVoice Office 250 server. 

Package Mechanism

The standard MiVoice Office 250 packaging procedure is used. There are two packages:
•

cs-mitl-ep

: classic Mitel IP phones package (automatically installed)

•

cs-ep-mitl-85x8:

 newer digital telephones (automatically installed)

During the MiVoice Office 250 upgrade (selected from the AWP System Upgrade Web page), the 

installed packages are displayed along with the other system packages that are installed during the 

MiVoice Office 250 upgrade. 

On a system upgrade from an earlier release (for example, 5000 CP Release 3.1) not containing 

phone firmware, the Mitel 86xx phone firmware packages are not automatically installed, but the 

Mitel 52xx/53xx phone firmware IS automatically installed. 

For any MiVoice Office 250 software release, the latest phone packages will always be delivered, 

even if they do not match the version numbers. For example it will not be uncommon for a 5000 CP 

v3.0 release to contain 5000 v3.1 phone packages. The phone firmware is not system software 

specific. The new phone firmware will work with older software. The only exception is if the phone 

type is not supported on the older or newer system software.

Package Downgrade

System downgrades are supported. For a system downgrade to an earlier release (for example, 

5000 CP Release 2.3) not containing phone firmware support, the phone firmware packages and 

contents are removed from the 5000 CP/MiVoice Office 250. 

Space Management

Before any package upgrade starts, compact flash available space checks are performed on the 

MiVoice Office 250 as follows: 
• A check for available space is performed before package transfer starts.
• A check for available space is performed after all packages are downloaded to the MiVoice Office 

250 and before the package contents are upgraded.
