to the system. Each gas discharge tube is installed directly between the service provider company
RJ-type block and the system CO/DID/OPX input. This protection should provide energy absorption
and filter low-level surge potentials. Also, in areas with frequent occurrences of lightning, make the
cable length between the service provider company RJ-type blocks and the gas discharge tubes at
least 75 ft (22.5 m). The cable may be coiled as needed.
Connecting CO Trunks to a U.S. System
Connect the CO trunks and other module cables. This procedure describes additional information
for installing digital telephones. Note that step 2 mentions two installation methods. Although the
first method is more flexible, the second method can be used to minimize the number of terminal
blocks required.
1.
Cross-connect the CO trunks from the telephone company RJ-type blocks to the right side of
the Mitel system blocks at the MDF. To provide additional lightning protection, see “Installing
.
2.
For a new installation, use enough 25-pair cable to run from the MDF to the modules. To help
speed installation, a 15 ft (4.5720 m) cable with Amphenol connector is available, part number
813.1814.

priate. One end of the cable is terminated with a male Amphenol-type connector that will
plug into a female Amphenol-type connector used for terminating Axxess system stations
at the MDF. The other end of the cable is terminated with 4 prewired RJ-45 plugs for quick
connection to the DEM-16s in the DEI chassis.
If necessary,
using standard electrical tape,
attach two ferrite split beads, part number 808.1195, around each 25-pair cable just below
the Amphenol-type connector, as shown in
. Ferrite beads may be necessary to
help reduce EMI and RFI.
3.
Terminate the other end of each 25-pair cable on the left side of the corresponding cable termi

nation block, and install bridging clips to complete the connections.
