INSTALLATION PLANNING
This section provides procedures for planning the installation of an HX Controller or CS Controller
platform. If upgrading or expanding an existing system, see “System Upgrades and Expansion“ on
page 307 .
Network Installation Concerns
To install a network, you will need to acquire the following components:
•
Software License : Software features, including networking, are controlled by a software license.
The license uploaded to the system must have the appropriate networking feature.
• T1 or E1 Service : For each network span, order a clear channel, point-to-point T1 or E1/PRI
span from the service provider (not PRI service, even though you will be using T1M or T1M-2
modules set up for T1 or E1/PRI). If you intend to configure the T1/E1 module for PRI use, you
must have the PRI software feature license, part number 840.0227.
• T1M or T1M-2 Modules : For a private network installation, each network span requires two
T1M or T1M-2 modules, part number 580.2700 or part number 580.2702: one for each end of
the span.
• Processor Module : The HX Processor Module (PM) or the CS Processor Module (PM-1) are
removable units. The Processor Module is incorporated into a removable main board but can
be removed from the chassis, and the PM-1 is a separate card that is added into the CS base
chassis for it to function. If necessary, a Processor Expansion Card (PEC-1) can be installed on
top of the HX PM or CS PM-1. For details, see the HX Controller procedure for “Adding a
Processor Expansion Card (PEC-1)” on page 1-181 or the CS Controller procedure for “Adding
a Processor Expansion Card (PEC-1)” on page 1-186 .
You can create a private network through IP resource programming—Refer to the
MiVoice Office
250 Features and Programming Guide
. Installation recommendations include the following:
• Each node must have at least one central office (CO) [local exchange] trunk. Emergency calls
must be programmed to use the local trunk. See page 337 for additional Emergency call infor -
mation. Also, refer to the
MiVoice Office 250 Features and Programming Guide
for information
on configuring SIP Peer trunk groups for emergency calls.
• All nodes should have access to the node where an optional external voice processing system
is located, with a minimum number of hops through other nodes. This will have a significant
impact on the network layout. The network does not allow one node to use resources from
another node (for example DSP resources) with the exception of external page ports.
NOTICE
With regard to IP Addresses, subnet mask, and gateways, it is not necessary that the CT Gateway be
on the same LAN as the MiVoice Office 250 system IP address and subnet mask.
