• For T1/PRI trunks terminated on RJ-48C jacks near the MDF or for E1/PRI trunks terminated
on RJ-45 jacks near the MDF:
• Four-pair, non-reversing, mod-to-mod line cords (one for each T1/PRI trunk installed).
• For T1/PRI or E1/PRI trunks terminated on RJ-48C [RJ45 in Europe] jacks away from the
MDF. See Figure 3 on
page 162
.
• Eight-conductor modular jack [line jack unit] assemblies—two for each T1/PRI or E1/PRI
span installed.
• Four-pair, non-reversing, mod-to-mod line cords—two for each T1/PRI or E1/PRI span
installed.
• T1 or E1 cable—enough to extend from each telco RJ-48C [RJ45 in Europe] jack to the
MDF. For cable specifications, see page 87 .
• For T1/PRI or E1/PRI trunks terminated on an 66-type block:
• Eight-conductor modular jack assemblies [line jack unit]—one for each T1/PRI trunk in -
stalled. See Figure 3 on
page 163
.
• Four-pair, non-reversing, mod-to-mod line cords—one for each T1/PRI trunk installed.
• T1 or E1 cable—enough to extend from each telco [network provider] termination to the
MDF. For cable specifications, see page 87 .
Planning Station Locations
Keep the following information in mind when planning station locations and phone types:

Phones
:

IP
: Plan where IP phones are going to be located and whether a LAN port exists at that
location. One LAN port is required for each phone. If a computer or other LAN device is
plugged into this port (for example, a computer network cable), simply plug the IP phone
into the LAN port, then plug the computer network cable into the LAN port on the IP phone.

Digital:
The Digital Desktop Module (DDM-16), which can be installed only in the HX Con -
troller chassis, and the Digital Expansion Interface (DEI) unit’s Digital Endpoint Module
(DEM-16), which can be used with either the HX Controller or CS Controller, can support
various digital telephone models and the Single-Line Adapter (SLA). The SLA can be used
to connect one or two single line phones, an OPX trunk, or—in the USA only—a DID trunk.

Analog Single Line
: Analog single line phones include devices that operate on an indus -
try-standard tip-ring/AC telephone circuit, such as DTMF phones, fax machines, answering
machines, and playback devices. Playback devices are useful as hunt group overflow/an -
nouncement stations. For specifications, see page 121 .
Using the following interfaces, single line phones can be installed on the system:
• Four-port Single Line Module (SLM-4)—for installation details, see page 199.
• Eight-port Single Line Module (SLM-8)—for installation details, see page 230.
