Donor Flow Indicator
Three colors: green, yellow and orange indicate the donor flow
status. Green means the flow is good and the target flow rate
has been reached. The Donor Flow Indicator may display a full
set
of green segments.
Yellow indicates the flow is marginal and could be improved.
The number of segments displayed in the Donor Flow
Indicator has decreased. The procedure will continue if the
Indicator stays within this level, but if the system detects
instability and fluctuations in flow, IFC will respond by taking
specific actions to help improve the flow rate.
The orange color indicates that the flow is poor with only a few
segments displayed. IFC is now monitoring the flow by
making the following adjustments.
IFC Monitoring
The draw phase is halted to give the vein a brief rest, then
resumes. Depending on conditions, the cuff pressure may be
increased and the draw rate may be decreased, before the draw
is resumed. IFC may continue to reduce the flow rate to a
minimum of 50 mL per minute as it attempts to determine the
best flow rate for the donor.
If flow problems continue and IFC detects an occlusion, then
the instrument alerts the operator, and the draw cycle is
stopped to allow the operator to make adjustments.
The Donor Flow Indicator appears gray or without color when:
•
IFC detects low donor flow and halts the draw
momentarily
•
A draw occlusion occurs
•
System is performing maintenance tasks
Depending on the response to the new, adjusted
rate, and if the
flow rate stabilizes, IFC may increase the flow rate by 5 mL per
minute at periodic intervals. For example, if the rate has
stabilized at 60 mL, then IFC will increase it to 65 mL, wait for
another uninterrupted interval, then increase again to 70 mL.
This will continue until the optimum draw rate is achieved.
