Draw Phase
At the beginning of each draw phase, the pressure cuff will inflate
temporarily above the default value to remind the donor that it is
now time to start squeezing. If present, the
donor squeeze icon
flashes on the donor display, on each side of the instrument to
indicate that the donor should squeeze and release his or her fist
to aid blood flow.
At the start of collection, the instrument primes the kit with
blood, displacing the other fluids already in the kit. As whole
blood (WB) is drawn from the donor, anticoagulant (AC) is
added at a WB:AC ratio of 11:1.
During the draw phase, anticoagulated blood is simultaneously
pumped into the in-process container and the separation
chamber. The centrifuge separates anticoagulated whole blood
into plasma and red cells. The plasma pump pulls the plasma
from the separation chamber into the plasma container, while the
heavier cellular components are pushed out of the separation
chamber into the red cell container.
Typical Main Collection Screen – Draw
Phase
During the draw phase, the default or operator-set return rate is
displayed in the
return rate button
. When the draw phase is
complete, the procedure automatically advances to a return
phase.
Note:
Refer to Chapter 3, Intelligent Flow Control, IFC
Monitoring, for more information on monitoring the donor flow
rate.
