Procedure 

 

The operator should ensure the instructions provided in Chapter 
3 under “Starting the Instrument” and “Performing Daily Setup” 
have been completed before attempting to start a procedure. 

The A

LYX

 RBC/Plasma procedure may not be available 

depending on regional clearance from the appropriate health 
regulating agencies. 

WARNING:  Complete instructions for use should be 
followed for every collection procedure.  The A

LYX

 

Component Collection System should be operated by a 
qualified individual who has been trained in the use of the 
instrument. 

WARNING:  Risks associated with procedures involving 
extracorporeal circulation are blood loss, hemolysis, air 
embolism, and/or blood clotting.  To minimize these risks, 
do not deviate from the procedures described in this 
manual. 

Before beginning a procedure, ensure that the needed materials 
are available, including: 

•

Supplies for venipuncture site preparation, blood sampling, 
and donor care 

•

 

Tube sealer or an equivalent sealing device 

WARNING:  Disposable kits and sterile solutions are for 
single-use only. 

CAUTION:

  Do not operate the instrument if the operating 

display is blank or unreadable or if the instrument does not 
respond to the touch screen.  If the display becomes blank during 
a procedure, press the STOP button to isolate the donor from 
the instrument. 

CAUTION:

  The touch screen is the main input device for the 

instrument.  Do not touch the screen during operation except to 
interact with the instrument.
