Once the 

perform venipuncture prompt 

is displayed on the touch screen, 

venipuncture may be performed as follows:  

1.    Ensure the donor is close enough to the instrument for the 

donor line to reach the venipuncture site. 

2.    Ensure the pressure cuff is properly positioned, inflated, and 

comfortable to the donor.  Refer to Chapter 3, Making 
Adjustments, Pressure Cuff for information on using the cuff 
pressure button. 

3.    Select an appropriate vein for venipuncture and prepare the 

venipuncture site according to applicable standard operating 
procedures. 

4.    Perform the venipuncture. 

5.    Secure the needle to the donor’s arm and touch the 

check 

button.

WARNING:  Do not open the cassette compartment door 
while a donor is attached to the instrument. 

6.    Open the clamp on the line to the sampling pack and collect 

whole blood in the sampling pack.    After the desired sample 
volume has been collected, close the clamp on the sampling 
pack line and seal the line.  After the sampling pack line is 
sealed, the pack may remain with or be separated from the 
kit.
