The following information is provided in the event a procedure
ends unexpectedly and there is a need to calculate a donor’s
blood loss as a result of the terminated procedure.
Volume of Blood in the A
LYX
Disposable Kit
The A
LYX
disposable kit has a volume of 110 mL. This does not
include any blood components in the red cell, in-process, or
plasma containers. Additionally, if blood has not entered the
separation chamber, the volume of blood in the kit is not in
excess of 60 mL. If the final return has been completed, the
residual red cell loss in the kit is:
A
LYX
2RBC procedure
≤
12.5 mL RBCs
A
LYX
RBC/Plasma procedure
≤
20 mL RBCs
The donor’s red cell loss due to kit volume can be calculated as:
Donor Hematocrit x 110 mL = Donor Red Cell Loss
The donor’s plasma loss due to kit volume can be calculated as:
110 mL – Donor Red Cell Loss = Donor Plasma Loss
Note:
The above calculations assume the kit has been filled with
anticoagulated blood. If blood has not entered the separation
chamber, a 60 mL volume may replace the 110 mL volume in any
calculations.
