Setting the upper thread tension
The tension of the upper thread can be set on the
‹thread tension dial›
. For
normal use, set the upper thread tension to Value 4 for the most commonly
used stitches and fabrics. As a rule, you will obtain good results with this
setting.
Upper thread tension dial
When using special fabrics, you will have to determine the thread tension by
trial and error. An optimal setting for the zigzag stitch can be achieved with
a
stitch width
of 3,5 and a
stitch length
of 2,5.
Sew a test seam on a double-laid cotton tea towel to test and evaluate the
thread tension.
W6 Tip
The correct thread tension is pre-set for you by W6 WERTARBEIT.
Loosening the upper thread tension:
Turn the dial of the upper thread tension to a value less than 4 in order to
slacken the upper thread tension. As a result - in accordance with the
counter-tension principle - the upper thread is pulled further to the wrong
(lower) side of the fabric.
Increasing the upper thread tension:
Turn the upper thread tension dial to a value greater than 4 in order to
increase the upper thread tension. As a result - in accordance with the
counter-tension principle - the upper thread is pulled further to the right
(upper) side of the fabric.
Checking the lower thread tension:
The lower thread tension must only be checked if adjustment of the upper
thread tension does not lead to a satisfactory result.
