14.1 Troubleshooting
You may use this table to correct user errors easily.
Should you be unable to rectify the fault, contact your closest customer
service centre.
Troubleshooting
Possible cause
Effect
Solution
Upper thread is not threaded correctly.
Upper thread
breaks
Rethread the upper thread.
Upper thread is tangled.
Remove the thread ends and rethread the
upper thread. Check the interior of the
hook for pieces of thread.
Thread is not inserted correctly.
Incorrect needle in use.
Insert a suitable needle. In most cases,
this is a Super-Stretch 90 needle.
The metal needle plate is damaged
Sand the plate with fine emery paper or
replace it.
Hook race / metal needle plate is
damaged.
Lower thread
becomes fluffy
or breaks
Sand the parts with fine emery paper or
replace them.
Upper thread is tangled.
Lower thread
breaks
Remove the thread ends and rethread the
upper thread. Check the hook system for
pieces of thread.
Bobbin is not inserted or threaded
correctly in the hook race.
Insert the bobbin hook race correctly and
pull out the lower thread. Perform a
tension test, see „Practical Tips“ >
„Tension testing sewing thread | Is my
thread unwinding correctly?“ (Page168).
Needle is not inserted correctly.
Skipped
stitches
Insert the needle correctly.
Incorrect or worn needle is in use.
Insert a suitable needle (for example, a
Super-Stretch 90).
Incorrect needle/thread/fabric combina-
tion
See „Selecting needles“ > „Needle and
thread table“ (Page 52).
There is dust beneath the needle plate.
Clean the space beneath the needle plate
with the brush.
Damage to the needle plate.
Sand the parts with fine emery paper or
replace them.
Upper thread is not threaded correctly.
Skipped
stitches
Rethread the upper thread, see
„Threading the upper thread“ (Page 68).
Insert the bobbin hook race correctly and
pull out the lower thread. Perform a
tension test, see „Practical Tips“ >
