11.7 Quilting: Program 03
Quilting or top-stitching refers to the linking of two or more layers of fabric.
The seams on the outer layer of the piece create specific patterns. The
term “quilt” is derived from the verb “to quilt” to describe a stitched decora-
tive cove, used as a coverlet on furniture or as a wall decoration. Whereas
previously a great deal of hand sewing was required to create a quilt,
sewing machines can now be used for this task - provided they offer a quilt
stitching feature.
