HPU/LPU
Figure 3Ć2 shows a simplified circuit of the HPU and LPU. They are deĆ
scribed below:
The IV amplifier supplies a measurement voltage and a measurement curĆ
rent to the DUT. When the output current (Io) is less than the current setting
the IV amplifier works as a regulated voltage source. When the output
current (Io) is equal to the current setting, the IV amplifier works as a reguĆ
lated current source. These states are respectively called the V" mode and
the I" mode.
To set the HPU or LPU to I" mode, set the current setting equal to the the
output current. Set the voltage setting to an upper limit, which is applied to
the DUT. The current and voltage will remain constant when the voltage
reaches the upperĆlimit, which protects the DUT from excess current or
voltage.
To set the HPU or LPU to V" mode, set the voltage setting equal to the
output voltage. Set the current setting to an upper limit, which is then apĆ
plied to the DUT. The current and voltage will remain constant when the
output current reaches the upperĆlimit, which protects the DUT from excess
current or voltage.
Both I" mode and V" mode can be set from the menu in accordance with
the test item. Also, upperĆlimit values (usually called Compliance) for current
and voltage can be set arbitrarily.
The Current Monitor Circuit monitors current output from the IV amplifier so
that the IV amplifier can send regulated current to the DUT. The Sensing
Resistance (Rs) of this circuit can automatically or manually be switched in
accordance with the current through the DUT.
The Voltage Monitor Circuit monitors voltage applied to the sense line so
that the IV amplifier can supply regulated voltage to the DUT. The Sensing
Resistances Rs1 and Rs2 settings can automatically or manually be
switched in accordance with the monitor voltage.
The Protective Resistance prevents the DUT from oscillation caused by
negative resistance characteristics of the DUT and protects the DUT against
excess current or voltage. The resistance can be set to 0 k
W
, 10 k
W
or 500
k
W
(R mode). The measurement accuracy may drop slightly if a high resisĆ
tance value is set. The resistance value is set to 0 when there is no evidence
of oscillation, excess voltage or excess current, and when highĆprecision
measurement is desired.
The voltage and current supplied from the HPU are expressed as HPUV and
HPUI, respectively. Similarly, the voltage and current provided from the LPU
are expressed as LPUV and LPUI. Depending on the test item, HPUV, HPUI,
LPUV and/or LPUI are saved in memory as measurement data.
