Select an mathematical equation with the [EQUATION] selector
on the MATH application menu to process and reĆdisplay the curves.
One of four preĆdefined mathematical equations can be selected in the
Equation popĆup menu as shown in Table 3Ć26.

Descriptions
NONE
Turns OFF the mathematical operation feature.
SQRT (HPUI)
Turns the mathematical operation feature ON and takes
the square root of the HPU current value of the Y axis
component.
SQRT (LPUI)
Turns the mathematical operation feature ON and takes
the square root of the LPU current value of the Y axis comĆ
ponent.
b
HPUI/LPUI
Turns the mathematical operation feature ON and takes
the HPUI/LPUI ratio (used for measurement of BETA:hFE)
of the HPU current value of the Y axis, to LPU current valĆ
ue of the Y axis component.
gm
Δ
HPUI/
Δ
LPUV
Turns the mathematical operation feature ON and takes
the HPUI/LPUV ratio of the HPU current value of the Y axis
component, to LPU voltage value of the X axis component
(used for measurement of smallĆsignal transconductance).
In the catalog setup feature, gm (
Δ
HPUI/DLPUV) is used for gm vs. I/GS and
gm vs. ID curves, and
b
(HPUI/LPUI) is used for
b
vs. IC curves.
To calculate BETA and gm, the following algorithms are used:
BETA:
Y(n) =
HPUI (n)
LPUI (n)
Y(n) =
HPUI (n+1) - HPUI (n)
LPUV (n+1) - LPUV (n)
(1

gm:
Y (N) = HPUI (N) - HPUI (N-1)
LPUV (N) - LPUV (N-1)
When the MATH feature is turned on, the scale of the graph is automatically
adjusted with the autoĆscaling feature. Refer to Automatic Scaling AdjustĆ
ment in Adjusting the Graph Display in this section.
