Cleaning
Check the on-board charger on a regular ba-
sis for contamination, particularly in the area
of the fans.
If significant contamination has accumulated
on the battery charger, cooling may be im-
paired. The isolation to the truck chassis may
also be compromised.
–
Remove contamination with a damp cloth.
For significant contamination, use a soft
brush or a soft paintbrush.
Charging a deeply discharged lead-acid
battery
NOTE
A defective battery may be incorrectly iden-
tified as a deeply discharged battery if, for
example, a cell short circuit or another fault
is present. If the charging process is started
in this case, the remaining cells of the bat-
tery may be overloaded. Before the charging
process is started manually, you must there-
fore measure all cell voltages in the battery
and compare them for any irregularities. If
one cell voltage is significantly smaller than
the others, the battery is probably defective.
The charging process must not be started. In
addition, the filling quantity of the acid in the
cells must be checked and, if necessary, re-
filled according to the manufacturer's instruc-
tions. For this reason, the authorised service
centre must always be notified if a battery is
deeply discharged.
If the connected battery has a cell voltage in
the range of 1.0 to 1.6 V, it is considered to be
deeply discharged.
The battery charger indicates this by means of
a flashing red display after the mains plug has
been plugged in. The charging process does
not start automatically.
