Digital Endpoint Module
The Digital Endpoint Module (DEM-16) supports 16 digital endpoints, and three DEM-16s can
be installed in a DEI.
The status for each DEM-16 is shown with LEDs on the faceplate of the module. When lit, a
yellow LED indicates that at least one circuit on the DEM-16 is BUSY, as printed on the module.
When lit, a green LED indicates the module is ONLINE. The online/Off-line status for each
module also appears on the Administrative Web Interface.
DEM-16 ports are programmed in DB Programming. For details, refer to the
Inter-Tel 5000
Features and Programming Guide
(part no. 580.8006).
Eight-Port Single Line Module Characteristics
Up to three SLM-8 modules can be installed in each Inter-Tel Digital Expansion Interface (DEI)
unit attached to an Inter-Tel 5000 Base Server running v2.x.
The SLM-8:
•
Is hot swappable.
•
Is designed to be inserted into one of the three bays of the Inter-Tel 5000 Digital
Expansion Interface (DEI) chassis. The form factor used for the SLM-8 is the same as
used for the Digital Endpoint Module (DEM-16) module.
•
Supports two green status LEDs. One shows ONLINE status, and the other shows the
ready to REMOVE status. The SLM-8 provides four RJ-14 jacks, each wired to USOC
T568A specifications. Together, the jacks support eight single line analog endpoints.
•
Does
not
require software feature licensing.
•
Does
not
operate on a v1.x or on the initial release of v2.1 software. If you plug an SLM-8
into a v1.x or an initial release v2.1 system, a warning message displays and Message
Print indicates that the board will not come online.
•
Does
not
support dial pulse dialing.
Audio Saturation Limit for Single Line Ports
If the audio power level feeding into a single line port exceeds the industry standard, distorted
audio may be heard on the conversation. To the listener, the distortion may be an unexpected
burst of noise that repeats.
This unusual event may occur on any single line voice port supported by v2.1 or later. The
endpoint may be connected to a Single Line Module (SLM-4 or -8) or to either of the single line
ports built-in to the Inter-Tel 5000 Base Server. Distortion-related factors include the makes and
models of endpoints being used and the volume level of the speaker. The root cause of the
problem has been traced to the analog single line interfaces between the Inter-Tel 5000 platform
and endpoints that transmit at abnormally high power levels.
For troubleshooting and corrective action suggestions, refer to the
Inter-Tel 5000 Features and
Programming Guide
(part no. 580.8006).
NOTICE
Audio Distortion Possible
. Distorted audio may occur with various analog single line
endpoints if audio input volume exceeds the industry standard.
